A person who spiked candy with sleeping medication and distributed them to children at a youth camp in the area has admitted sexual offences against two boys aged between nine and ten.

The defendant was taken into custody after eight minors and an older person fell ill at the facility in mid-summer.

The 76-year-old, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, admitted guilt to a total of 17 charges when he stood at the courthouse on the end of the week.

Yet, he denied one particular crime he was facing, which was involving a nine-year-old child.

The defendant was held in detention before a subsequent court date on late November.

'Sweet game'

The prosecutor, prosecuting, outlined the criminal behavior to the judicial body.

She stated his targets were children from difficult backgrounds who were attending a summer program which he managed.

The defendant conducted a "treat game" with the children, Mrs Prior said, in which he would go into the boys' rooms when they were preparing to sleep and request they to eat sweets "as quickly as they can".

She stated to the judge the defendant had engaged in this activity with the young males "over an extended period", and youngsters had previously fallen ill the subsequent day.

She stated the man had been successful in rationalizing this repeatedly as the youngsters being "overexcited from fun", until his family member had worries in recently.

Mrs Prior KC stated further: "Recently" his stepson had suspicions about what was going on, justifiably.

"They chose" to investigate in the individual's items."

The legal counsel stated objects including baby oil, ointment and injection devices were found, and his family member contacted the police about his concerns.

She explained the man went on to conduct the "candy game" with six boys that time - Saturday 26 July - and they were all ill the next day.

"The police had not gone out by that point," she stated further.

The regulatory agency, the investigative body, had stated that it was investigating law enforcement's management of the events.

The legal representative stated the children were struggling to walk due to being ill, so the stepson notified the police a second time.

She stated the man then played the "candy game" in a room of five children.
